Punks Make The Best CEOs

Just heard an inspiring preso from Nathan Martin, founder of DeepLocal. He’s a former punk rocker / former disruptive artist. (Look him up, and his miraculous lack of criminal record.) Based in Pittsburgh, DeepLocal made the Nike/Livestrong Tweetbot at the Tour de France. Here’s how a punk rock background makes him a kick-ass CEO. Read into it: “Be first / Be remarkable / Be prolific / Be nice / Be passionate / Reinvent the wheel / Gain new perspectives / Be authentic / Work hard / Don’t get comfortable.” In other words, be more punk rock. It couldn’t hurt. (@davidyeend)

What do you do with your old clothes? Take them to Goodwill. What do you get out of it? Closet space. GAP has ingeniously intercepted that habit to drive would-be Goodwill traffic to their stores instead. And GAP looks like the good samaritan in the process.
Is there a good behavior your customers are already doing that your brand can tap into? Think about it.

Coca-Cola is pushing their global recycling efforts harder than ever. See www.LivePositively.com for the US program. This video is from Coke Israel.

"Coca-Cola Israel launched a pop up store for recycled products. The company opened a special shop offering a collection of products made from recycled Coca-Cola bottles and cans. The campaign invites customers to bring bottles and cans to the store where they can purchase recycled products for bottles and a small additional price."

Radio’s $10k “Creative Challenge for Change”

I like that this recognizes creativity making an impact. Entries award creative “that supported or educated a social or community cause or charity that included radio in the campaign.” (led by New York Market Radio)

I had thought this whole campaign was handled by BBH NY, but this credit says the agency is GOOD/Corps, LA. I believe this is the “agency” arm of Good Magazine, which I like a lot. It’s like all of my favorite things have collided here. (Including mom n pop restaurants that serve great rustic food.)

I only mention this spot because it’s new, and for the GOOD/Corp credit. Google’s other spots - most notably, It Gets Better with Dan Savage - is much more on the Marketing+Good, doing good in the world tip.

One of those rare times a great marketing+good strategy results in GREAT execution.

This is hard. Especially for banking, since its product (money) has such a universal benefit.
